The Fighting Spirit would get on the board next scoring 2 goals to bring the Stars lead to 1 halfway through the period. The Stars’ Ryan Paul would stretch the lead back to 2 scoring 17:56 in to the period assisted by Derek Flynn and Nolan Arbuckle. The Stars would eventually lock in the win with the sole goal in the 3rd coming from Ryan Gauvin assisted by Cole Archambeault and Nolan Arbuckle 14:42 in to the period giving them a 5-2 victory on the road. Sunday featured back and forth action between the Stars and Islanders. The Islanders were coming off a 5-3 win over the Main Wild the night before. John Krapian notched the Stars first goal in the opening period, 9:33 in assisted by Nolan Arbuckle and Hunter McTague. That would be the sole goal in the first. The 2nd period also featured only 1 goal, this time it would be the Islanders that would capitalize. John Krapian would score again for the Stars 2:01 into he 3rd giving them a 2-1 lead. Cape Cod would tie the game back up a 2 a piece scoring 9:38 in to the period and eventually forcing overtime. Despite opportunities at both ends of the ice, the 5 minute 3 on 3 would go scoreless forcing a shootout. The Stars would come up just short in the shootout only scoring 1 goal to the Islanders 2.
“Friday night we came out flying and built a three goal lead after one. Our second period wasn’t great but we got momentum back at the end of the period and got a big goal. In the third we played together and were very detailed in preserving our lead,” stated Head Coach Darryl Green. “Sunday we played well enough to win but fell short in a shootout. We did not do a great job getting to the opponents net. Four points would have been nice however three out of four is a great pace too. John Krapian, Nolan Arbuckle, and Hunter McTague were solid all weekend,” added Green.
The Stars are back in action on November 5th, as they host the Maine Wild in a 3:50p game. They then travel to the East Coast Minutemen for a 3:30p game on Sunday, November 6th. All games can be watched live online at www.hockeytv.com
