He played two seasons before going to play for the Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2018/19. He returned this current season to the Stars for a chance to compete for a league championship. Derek was nominated to the NA3HL Top Prospects tournament in both 2018 and 2020.
“Flynn has been playing hockey with us since he was 10 I think. He too is a great teammate and person. Also, he’s one the best defenseman in our league. He plays physical, moves the puck, QBs a power play, and is highly respected by his teammates. He’s a great guy and SNHU will be very happy with Derek patrolling their blue line.” – Stars Head Coach Darryl Green
Southern New Hampshire University is an NCAA Division II University that competes in the Northeast-10 (NE10). The SNHU campus is located just a few miles from downtown Manchester, NH.
“I’m proud to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Southern New Hampshire University. I’d like to thank all my friends, coaches, and family for helping me get to this point. I’d also like to thank Coach Fontas, Green, and Lubinski for everything they’ve done, always pushing me to be a better player and person. Lastly, I’d like to thank my parents Margo and Brendan. None of this is possible without them and I can’t thank them enough. I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it weren’t for them.” – Derek Flynn
