Stars disappointed with first weekend back performance.

This past weekend, the New England Stars had 2 games on their schedule.  They would host the Long Beach Sharks Saturday, then home again Sunday, vs. the Maine Wild.

Saturday the Stars would face-off against the Long Beach Sharks who are currently in first place in the Coastal division.  Long beach came out flying scoring the only goal in the 1st period.  The Stars would be unable to regroup between period, giving up 3 more in the 2nd period.  A scoreless 3rd period would result in a 4-0 loss.  Sage Broda with 24 saves in net for New England.

Sunday the Stars would host the Maine Wild for their third matchup of the year.  The first period would be back and forth with both teams getting their chances but resulting in no goals.  Maine would open up the scoring with the only goal in the 2nd coming 3:21 in to the period on the power play.  The Stars would tie the game up 9:21 in to the third with Brandon Hammner scoring on the power play, assists going to John Krapian and Michael Lempiainen.  Maine would eventually capitalize 0:39 in to overtime for a 2-1 win.  Dom Lamanno was in ent for New England stopping 28 of 30 shots faced.

“After a great week of focused and intense practice, it was disappointing to see far too many of our guys not prepared mentally for Saturday’s game.  Sunday we played pretty well.  Our d-zone and penalty kill was solid and our work ethic was too.  Scoring one goal in two games isn’t enough.  We will have to be better next weekend and I’m confident we will be.” – Head Coach Darryl Green

New England has 3 games schedule for next weekend.  On Friday, January 13th, they travel to Canton Sportsplex for a 8:30 PM game vs. the Northeast Generals.  On Saturday, January 14th, the Stars travel to Biddeford Ice Arena for a rematch vs. the Maine Wild at 7:30 PM.  On Sunday, January 15th, the Stars return home to host the L/A Fighting Spirit in a 1:20 PM match-up.  You can catch all New England Stars games live on Hockey TV.
